The most effective way to use these oils is to apply them topically. Add a couple of drops of essential oils to your favourite carrier oil and massage into the lower abdomen and back, temples and back of the neck.

For menstrual cramps, mix a few drops of the oil with a carrier oil, such as jojoba or coconut oil, and massage onto the lower abdomen and back. You can also add a few drops of the oil to a warm bath or use a diffuser to inhale the aroma.

We’ve created a simple period cramp relief balm that you can make in just a few minutes with minimal ingredients that you can apply to your lower abdomen and back to ease discomfort during your period.

To make our period cramp relief balm you will need:

7g beeswax

19g of a carrier oil, something light and fast absorbing like sweet almond, grapeseed or fractionated coconut are all good options

20 drops of essential oil – choose some of the oils listed above for the most effective relief.

Here are a couple of options you could try:

Peppermint

Clary Sage

Lavender

Cinnamon

Ginger

Geranium rose

Melt the beeswax then combine it with the carrier oil. Mix in the essential oils then pour into a suitable container to set.

Once it’s set, you can apply it to the affected areas whenever you need relief from the discomfort of period cramps.

It's important to note that essential oils should be used with caution and under the guidance of a healthcare professional. Some oils can cause adverse reactions or interact with medications, and pregnant women should avoid using certain oils altogether. Incorporating essential oils into a self-care routine can be a beneficial way for women to support their health and wellbeing during their menstrual cycle.
